Statement or story about your establishment (similar to stories on menus or websites):
Buffo’s opened in 1977 by owner Leonard Innocenzi. He opened in a building on Sheridan Road that was owned by his family. A very busy hot dog and hamburger stand in Highwood had recently closed, so he moved into that space.
At first, only hot dogs, hamburgers, polish sausages, Italian beef and sausage sandwiches were sold. Over the years the menu has been built up to the point where there is definitely something for everybody. Thin-crust and double-decker pizzas were added in 1979, after working through about 40 different pizza recipes to find one that fit the way they cook as well as the ovens. Pasta dishes were introduced during the 80’s and we have a great selection of salads and sandwiches.
After a recent renovation in the spring the spring of 2005, the restaurant is filled with war colors and local themed memorabilia and historical photos. There is even the “Fire Wall”, where photographs detail the Buffo’s 1979 Fire. The fire is a part of Buffo’s history, so it is displayed on the wall for everyone to see.
Both a classic car gathering place and a local family establishment, Buffo’s is located in the heart of Highwood and has celebrated 36 years in operation.
